Physical and Psychological Effects

In order to successfully achieve the goals of this project, it is essential to be educated on the physical and psychological effects of this horrifying act. We must note that the severity of this crime is often overlooked by society - the primary reason is the lack of awareness regarding the effects. Although, many acknowledge the physical attributes of a victim, there is much more beyond the surface of the human eye physically, mentally, and even economically.

Physical Health:

Physical Disfigurement
Severe burns on the face and body
External and Internal Scars
Blindness and/or Deafness (in many cases)
Exposing and sometimes the dissolving of the bones
Feelings of physical weakness/lethargy

Mental Health:

Mental Health illnesses (Depression, Anxiety, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder are the most common illnesses)
Feelings of emotional weakness/instability
Concentration difficulties and memory loss
Low self-esteem and feelings of shame due to society's victim-blaming practice
Phobias/Panic Disorders
Eating Disorders
Substance Abuse
Self-neglect

Reproductive Health:

Miscarriage/Low-Birth Rate
Pregnancy Complications
Sexual Dysfunction

Other Effects:

Economic Hardships (expenses for hospital visits/surgeries and other rehabilitation resources - Organizations and Corporations should attempt to establish programs that financially assist the families of victims).
Death (in some instances)
